Tellius Named a Cool Vendor in Analytics by Gartner

We’re excited to announce that Gartner recently named Tellius a Cool Vendor in Analytics. We’ve always thought that it’s been cool that we enable people to literally ask questions of their business data in natural language and automatically find important insights with the assist of AI and machine learning. We believe that to be recognized by the leading global research and advisory firm validates the hard work the team has invested and the path we are on to re-define business intelligence in the modern age.

Each year, Gartner identifies new Cool Vendors in key technology areas that enterprises take a closer look at. In this year’s report on Cool Vendor in Analytics which named Tellius as one of four companies, Gartner wrote that, “Data and analytics leaders should consider these Cool Vendors as a complement to their existing architectures, with augmented analytics capabilities to mitigate complexity and achieve value faster.”* Read the Gartner Market Guide for Augmented Analytics Tools to see how Tellius stacks up against other analytics products.

Gartner defines Cool Vendors as emerging companies who offer products and services that they find interesting and who share three qualities:

  1. Innovative — enables users to do things they couldn’t do before.
  2. Impactful — has or will have a business impact, not just technology for its own sake.
  3. Intriguing — has caught Gartner’s interest during the past six months.

Here’s how I think we meet the criteria:

Innovative

For organizations that want to be more data-driven, getting answers to inform decision making usually gets held up with data analysts who are wrestling with ever increasing complexity and volume of data. This is because there’s a huge gap between the user-friendliness of consumer applications that we all use at home and the analytics applications we use at work. Data analytics applications are typically hard to use and require the most specialized skills to master because they are designed for technical people.

Tellius helps people get answers faster and more easily than typical visualization and self-service tools by providing a scalable analytics platform built from the ground up that incorporates natural language, AI, and predictive analytics. Think ‘Google for your business data.’ Business users and data professionals alike can ask questions and get a response from their data in seconds, automatically perform data analysis to learn the underlying reasons why performance has changed, and be alerted to important changes and anomalies in metrics even without asking. Advanced data professionals and data scientists can even build machine learning models and share recommendations with the business through interactive visualizations and APIs. We’re built on an unbelievably scalable data platform that leverages the high performance computation of Apache Spark.

Impactful

It’s always great to hear how our customers are utilizing Tellius to positively impact their organization. At the 2019 Gartner Data & Analytics Summit which gathers thousands of enterprise data and analytics leaders, we gave a presentation where we shared the stage with two of our customers who highlighted their journey from BI reporting to AI-driven insights. Winston & Strawn highlighted how they enabled their non-technical user base of legal professionals to query databases in natural language in order to expedite research of previous cases and get answers in seconds, and identify new opportunities of legal case work to increase revenue faster and more efficiently. Seneca shared how they collapsed the time to analyze data from days to minutes, made ad hoc query available to the executive level, and expedited data visualization across departments at the college – read more about Seneca’s experience.

Intriguing

At the same Data & Analytics Summit, Gartner invited Tellius to participate in the first ever Analytics Show Floor Showdown which allowed attendees to watch product demonstrations and compare multiple vendors using the same data set. It was the first time for many people to see our search and AI-powered analytics platform in action, and our booth was inundated for the remaining of the Summit with people coming to learn more.

We give product demonstrations every day, and it’s always gratifying to hear the reactions of people on the other end who cannot believe how fast we can get answers and insights from their data. On a recent call, a Director at a Fortune 50 company exclaimed in disbelief, “What you did there, by clicking that Insights button and automatically getting those discoveries in minutes, right now takes us a day to do.”

The Tellius Mission

Being named a Cool Vendor is certainly a cool moment in Tellius history. And we hope it’s but one of many milestones on our journey to bring innovation to the analytics industry and significantly impact the way people use data everyday.

Our mission is to make data analytics accessible to everyone, by enabling people to communicate with data and surface relevant answers in the most natural way. We do this by re-imagining how people get answers from their business data and use technology that makes their data more human. Today, that means combining business intelligence and visual analytics with natural language, automated machine learning, explainable AI, and data scalability across all of an organization’s data. And tomorrow, well, the technologies we use are to be determined, but we’ll always hope to be cool.
